08.08.06 - Charity and Booze....

For those of you in the Philadelphia Tri-State area, Bing Bong is sponsoring an event in Manyunk. On Sunday, August 13, Bing Bong, along with Jack Daniels, WMMR, and many others are throwing a benefit for HEAD at Grape Street. For those of you who don't already know, HEAD's van, Roxy, was stolen. It contained all of their gear and instruments. The benefit is being held to help get HEAD back up and running. For all of you that would like to give HEAD support, please come down and party with us. Hope to see you there.

Now there is another reason to enjoy that glass of cold beer on a hot summer day. Beer bran, a by-product of brewing beer from barley, can be used to clean polluted waters. Researchers at Kobe Pharmaceutical University in Japan have demonstrated that the bran adsorbs hazardous organic compounds including benzene and trichloroethylene (TCE) from chemical and industrial wastewater. The US National Academy of Sciences reported last week that there is growing evidence that TCE, used in adhesives and paint, can cause cancer. The Environmental Protection Agency is carrying out a new risk assessment of the chemical.

Argentinean scientists have discovered gigantic neck, back, and tail bones from one of the biggest dinosaurs ever to roam the Earth. Puertasaurus reuili, is estimated to have been 115 to 131 feet (35 to 40 meters) long and weighed between 88 and 110 tons (80 and 100 metric tons). The new species, which lived about 70 million years ago, is one of the titanosaurs.

07.24.06 - Global Summer Heatwave and Booze News Flows!

In movie news, Tom Cruise has won a Razzie at this year's Razzie Awards, a spoof version of the Oscars. He won the award for "most tiresome tabloid target" for his "antics with fiancee Katie Holmes". Dirty Love was named worst picture, worst screenplay and director. While the film's star, Jenny McCarthy, won worst actress. The worst actor award went to Rob Schneider for Deuce Bigalow: European Gigolo, while Paris Hilton won worst supporting actress.

Wealthy New Yorkers are advertising rent-free rooms to women in exchange for sexual favours. The New York Daily News reports the trend and lists a number of ads on the popular Craigslist.org website. One, entitled "Take Care of My Needs and Live Rent Free", offers: "All you have to do is take care of all my urges, and I'll let you live in a one-bedroom apartment I own rent free." Another ad reads: "All I am looking for is an attractive, playful, and submissive woman who is uninhibited to my proposal... substituting rent for sexual encounters." In the posting, the 33-year-old man living in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, adds that the room comes with a TV, DVD player, internet-ready computer and a phone line. "I don't need the rent but would like to fill it up with a woman who would love to show her appreciation for my generosity," he wrote. But Deputy Police Commissioner Paul Browne warned that the advertisements amounted to prostitution.

Michael Ballack and Oliver Kahn are demanding damages after they were featured in a soccer superstars range of vibrators. New Chelsea signing Ballack and German goalie Kahn are unhappy with Beate Uhse launching erotic toys named Michael B and Olli K. A dildo named David B also forms part of the collection of products aimed at peaking women's interest in the World Cup. The two German footballers have now taken legal action for "clearly violating personal rights", although David Beckham has not made a complaint. A spokeswoman for the company admitted they had purposefully named the products to suggest a connection with the footballing stars. She said: "The association with the footballers was intentional. Their well trained and muscular bodies and strong legs excite the fantasies of female fans."

Prostitutes in Berlin say they are glad Italy knocked Germany out of the world cup because Italian fans make the best punters. Haki Simsek, the owner of Artemis - Germany's largest brothel - said: "I know I shouldn't be happy Germany lost, but it's the best result imaginable for business." So far the World Cup has failed to bring in the business for the world's oldest profession despite high expectations. Artemis worker Svetlana from Omsk said: "It's been a total flop. The fans are all celebrating with food and beer instead of sex." But according to Marlene, 29, from Poland, the Italian fans have saved the day. "After a win they are in a great mood and love celebrating with us and after a bad game they need comforting." Owner Simsek added: "The Italians love coming here, they are great customers and we are all so happy they are in the final."

In beer news, a German prince is partnering with a brewery in the South Asian country of India to produce his Bavarian beer. The Schlossbrauerei Kaltenberg is teaming up with the Him Neel brewery to produce the beverage made with water from the Himalayans and malt and hops from Germany and brewed according to Germany's purity laws. "India is a difficult but also promising market," the prince said recently at the German embassy in New Delh. Complicated laws that ban advertising for alcoholic beverages and set different duties for every Indian state did not make the entrance into the Indian market easy, said the great-grandson of the last Bavarian king, Ludwig III. But Luitpold added that with annual beer consumption at 1.5 litres per person and a growing middle class that closely follows global trends, the consumption of quality beer could "only go up" in India. The prince said that because of the advertising ban, he plans to turn to other forms of marketing to promote the product and is considering opening a Bavarian-style hotel in New Delhi that would feature weisswurst, sauerkraut and, of course, Kaltenberg beer.

In fierce competition held April 10th and 11th at the Washington State Convention and Trade Center in Seattle, Washington, 2,221 entries competed in the 2006 World Beer Cup competition, categorized into 85 stylistic classes. Each entry rode on high expectations, hoping to snatch the coveted Gold, Silver and Bronze medals that would elevate both brewmaster and brewery to the pinnacle of international recognition. Judging for the World Beer Cup is tough. With 109 beer experts from 18 countries assessing these entries, there can be high levels of friction when determining whether a beer is within stylistic guidelines. American brewers tend to be multi-dimensional and innovative in their choice of ingredients and brewing techniques, whereas Europeans may display a greater adherence to traditional parameters. This variability requires a high level of latitude and
compromise among professional judges who evaluate each beer in "blind competition." America has traded its past anemic reputation for a new,"Technicolor Dreamcoat," and has become the most admired beer culture worldwide. Not only have American brewers mastered the styles of their European heritage; they have also introduced a degree of innovation and
extremism that places them on the cutting edge of brewing history. American brewers won 73 medals across 85 categories.

A Swedish man who donated sperm to a lesbian couple has been ordered to pay child support for their three children. In the early 1990s the man, now 39, donated his sperm to a woman in a lesbian relationship. Although the man signed a document confirming he was the biological father of the children, he told the court the women agreed he would not be involved in their upbringing in any way. But when the women separated, the biological mother of the three boys demanded child support payments from the man. He went to court but lost the case and the subsequent appeal before taking the matter to the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court has confirmed the earlier rulings, stating that the biological father is required to pay child support to the mother of the three children he indirectly fathered.

A Bulgarian hunter was shot by his own dog when he tried to knock a bird out of its mouth with his gun. Vasil Plovdiv, 35, was shooting quail in Rasgrad in the north-east of the country with his German Pointer, when the dog, which had retrieved a bird, refused to drop it. According to police, Plovdiv tried to dislodge the dead quail from the pointer's mouth with the butt of his rifle but the dog sprung at him, knocking the trigger and peppering the hunter's chest with shot. He is being treated for chest injuries at the local hospital.

01.14.06- Happy New Year everyone!

Hope you all enjoyed the Holiday Season, and are recovering well after a nice break from work and school.  Bing Bong got the year started on the good foot as the official table sponsor of the first ever World Series of Beer Pong, hosted by the good folks at BPONG.COM.  The event was a great success and an awesome spectacle as nearly 100 teams battled it out to take home the $10,000 grand prize.  Some of the best teams from across America, and even Canada, made the hour drive north of Las Vegas for the 3 day competition in Mesquite, Nevada.  The overall vibe of the event progressively intensified from day to day as the players became more focused and determined to take home the hefty grand prize money.  Some of the teams even played in outrageous costumes, sparing no detail to distract their opponents.  In the end though, only one team could be named the World Series Champions… and in a moment that will go down in beer bong history, Team France (actually, two Americans – one from Ann Arbor Michigan and the other from Philadelphia, PA) sunk consecutive shots to take out their rivals and claim not only the money but the coveted title as well.  Coming in both second and third places were exceptional teams from Long Island, NY – who honed their skills at the revered Beer Pong training ground of the Nutty Irishman.  Needless to say, everyone had a great time (including the numerous film crews and photographers who were constantly battling to get that perfect shot for their newspaper, magazine, news program, TV pilot etc…) and there was much talk amongst teams about how much better and more prepared they all will be at the next World Series.

Bing Bong also had a great time and extends a warm thank you to Billy, Duncan, and the entire crew from BPONG.COM.  Our tables also made a nice impression on the crowd, with numerous people asking to have a custom table of their own… and YES now we do offer customs, more info will be up on the site shortly but for now email here (customs@bingbongtables.com).  A last minute raffle of one of the World Series tables fetched $400, and it is no doubt an instant collectors’ item.

You asked for national tournaments, and now we’ve got them coming up… want to sign up?  Email here (tournaments@bingbongtables.com) to see what’s happening in your area.
